Laura is a doctoral candidate in the School/Applied Child Psychology program at McGill University. She holds a Master’s degree in Psychology from McGill University and is a registered doctoral candidate with the Ordre des Psychologues du Québec (OPQ). Laura has over seven years of experience working with children/youth and their families across a wide range of settings, including hospital, community, and private practice. She completed her clinical practica at the McGill’s Psychoeducational and Counselling Clinic and her clinical residencies at the English Montreal and Lester B. Pearson School Boards.
Laura recently joined the ULTRA Health Services team and specializes in working with children, youths, and their caregivers. She has developed expertise in conducting psychological and psychoeducational assessments to identify attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities (reading, writing, mathematics), intellectual disabilities, and emotional and behavioral problems in children, adolescents, and young adults. Laura also provides therapy to children and adolescents struggling with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, grief, anger management/ emotion-regulation difficulties, relationship issues, oppositional and obsessive-compulsive behaviour, and school and behavioural difficulties.
Laura is passionate about cultivating meaningful and healing relationships with her clients. She believes that healing is a personalized process and as such, she tailors the therapy to best suit the needs of each individual client. Laura practices from a strengths-based and holistic perspective and has training in evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as solution-focused therapy and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). In her work with clients, she also integrates components of mindfulness, socio-emotional learning, and client-centered therapy.
Laura uses a systemic approach to help families overcome their difficulties and create sustainable change by strengthening the parent-child relationship. She strives to create a safe, open, and collaborative environment for her clients to best help them explore healthy coping strategies and discover alternative solutions to their unique set of challenges. Through the therapy process, she seeks to equip her clients with valuable knowledge and resources so that they feel empowered and confident in their journey toward growth and lasting change.
